Ptolemy

(87-170AD)

Ptolemy was another astronomer who believed in a geocentric (Earth-centered) solar system. He modified the previous geocentric diagrams to include even more epicycles to more accurately show the motion of the sun and the planets. This was known as the "Ptolemaic model" and was used as the standard for astronomy for over 1000 years. Ptolemy published this diagram in a book titled "Almagest", which also included 48 constellations.

Just one of the may constellations that exist, Ptolemy named 48 constellations in total, the names of those constellations are still used today!
